Blue Flag in Porto de Pedras: Lage and Patacho beaches in 2026/2027

After Patacho, Lage beach earns the international Blue Flag certification for the first time, and Tatuamunha sits between the two.

Porto de Pedras has just earned another Blue Flag. For the 2026/2027 season, Lage beach received the international certification for the first time, while Patacho beach had its recognition renewed.

More than a badge, the Blue Flag sets criteria covering water quality, environmental management, environmental education, safety and services. Keeping it requires ongoing monitoring and action, and that is exactly why the initiative matters for a growing tourist destination.

Blue Flag at Patacho and Lage: two beaches, one territory

Both beaches are part of a much larger environmental territory. Porto de Pedras lies within the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area, which protects reefs, mangroves, beaches and threatened species and seeks to reconcile conservation, tourism, fishing and the lives of local communities.

And between Patacho and Lage lies Tatuamunha, where this relationship between tourism and preservation can be seen up close.

Tatuamunha and the Manatee Sanctuary: protecting nature while still visiting

This is where the Tatuamunha River meets the sea and where the Manatee Sanctuary stands, a reference in the conservation and reintroduction of the West Indian manatee. The area is also home to an ICMBio base, responsible for important work in managing, researching and conserving marine fauna.

The work carried out on the Tatuamunha River has turned the manatee into one of the region's environmental symbols and shows that preserving does not simply mean preventing visits. It means creating responsible ways of getting to know a place, respecting its limits, its wildlife and the communities who live there. Pontal itself presents Tatuamunha this way: as a place where sea, river, mangrove, village and home are part of one and the same experience.

How to visit the Route of Milagres while respecting the environment

The arrival of Porto de Pedras's second Blue Flag reinforces an important idea: the beauty of the Milagres Route is no accident. It depends on care.

Water quality, sanitation, waste, ecosystem protection and tourism management are public and collective responsibilities. And visitors take part in the process too, by respecting the beach, the tide, the animals, the mangrove and the rules of each protected area.

For those staying at Pontal da Enseada, all of this is very close. We are in Tatuamunha, between the sea and the river, near the Manatee Sanctuary and between two beaches that now carry the Blue Flag.

That is also why we like to introduce Tatuamunha to our guests not just as a beautiful beach, but as a place to be known and understood.
